Shepherd's Daughters Chapter

The vision of The Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross is to gather Anglican women and girls into a nurturing and empowering community called to be servants of Jesus as He unites and builds up His Body the Church.
We are women who have committed our lives to the work and service of our LORD Jesus Christ. We pray daily for our Church, its clergy, the Order and others in need. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and equipped with the powerful sword of truth as contained in the Holy Bible, we reach out to those who do not know Jesus to share His message of salvation through word and deed. We wear our cross as a symbol of Jesus' sacrifice and our need for Him to be LORD of our lives. In community with our sisters, we are strengthened and encouraged to keep our fourfold Vow of Prayer, Service, Study and Evangelism.
From Brownies to professional associations, organizations offer people with similar outlooks and a commitment to the same goals a common and beneficial experience. Joining an organization is usually as simple as paying the dues and getting on the membership list. When the organization no longer meets the individual needs, ending membership is usually easy, just stop paying and stop going. A religious order is much more than an organization.
Members of The Order Of The Daughters Of The Holy Cross do not decide themselves that they will join the Order, but rather are called into the Order by the LORD Jesus, whose cross they wear. They undergo a three month period of study and discernment to test and confirm the call. As they pray, study the Bible, and the Candidate Study Manuel, reflect with their mentor and study group members, seek counsel from their priest and others whose spiritual direction they trust, they are able to discern whether they have been called into the Order. When a woman is sure of her calling, she vows to live by the Rule of Life of the Order and is admitted to membership. From the beginning, being part of the Order is Jesus' idea. He alone knows how He means to mold and shape each member according to His plan and purpose for her life. The vow she takes is lifelong commitment. All who have been called into the Order have an important role to play. Some are called into leadership, the servant leadership that Jesus modeled and taught His disciples (Matthew 20: 25-28). Others have equally important follower roles. Regardless of role, participation is a privilege and responsibility of every member.
We have compiled a cook book for sale to benefit Maama Phebe's Widow and Orphan Fund, in Uganda, Africa. We also support The Concho Valley Regional Food Bank, and The Pregnancy Help Center, as we are able. However, our most vital ministry begins and ends on our knees.
*We meet for prayer, study and fellowship the first Monday of every month from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall of the Church.
To date we have 17 members and a new class will be starting soon. If you feel this may be something the LORD is calling you to investigate, please contact our Chapter President, Patty Debenport.
